Evolution Edges Responds to Tungsten Carbide Market Volatility with Cost-Stable Blade Innovation

As municipalities and Departments of Transportation continue to navigate volatility in tungsten carbide pricing and supply, Evolution Edges is advancing a new approach focused on cost stability, material independence, and long-term operational planning. To support agencies facing these pressures, Evolution Edges has introduced the Sabre Armored Steel Blade, a carbide-free alternative engineered to reduce exposure to unpredictable raw material markets while maintaining the performance standards required by public works fleets.

Built on the patented Sabre® blade platform, the solution features a fully welded 3/4" Hardox® 450 armored wear plate paired with a 3/4" 1020 steel blade body. This construction delivers measurable performance advantages, including twice the hardness of standard steel, a 70% increase in tensile strength, and a 140% increase in yield strength. These improvements support extended service life, reduced downtime, and more predictable replacement cycles for municipalities and DOT operations.

“Agencies today are not just managing equipment performance. They are managing supply chain risk and budget uncertainty,” said Matt Aquino, inventor of the patented Sabre Blade System. “Our focus has been to provide a solution that gives fleets greater control and predictability, regardless of volatility in the carbide market.”

Beyond performance, the Sabre Armored Steel Blade is designed to improve procurement efficiency and budget planning. As a carbide-free solution, it eliminates dependency on constrained materials while offering lower upfront costs and reduced lifecycle expenses. The product is also available through cooperative agreements with NASPO ValuePoint, Onondaga (NY Purchasing), COSTARS (PA Purchasing), and LGC (Idaho Purchasing), enabling streamlined, no-bid purchasing for participating agencies.

Evolution Edges supports customers nationwide through its headquarters in Elmira, New York, and a western distribution hub in Denver, Colorado. This network provides faster shipping, reduced freight costs, and reliable supply continuity.

Manufactured in the United States within a solar-powered production facility, the Sabre Armored Steel Blade reflects Evolution Edges’ commitment to domestic manufacturing, sustainability, and supply chain resilience.

As industry conversations continue to shift toward lifecycle cost, procurement strategy, and material risk, Evolution Edges remains focused on delivering solutions that help agencies operate with greater confidence in an unpredictable market.
